Linking andpage manipulation. Linking through hyperlinks is an important feature of Wikipedia. Internal links bind the project together into an interconnected whole. Interwikimedia links bind the project to sister projects such as Wikisource, Wiktionary and Wikipedia in other languages, and external links bind Wikipedia to the World Wide Web.
Double square brackets create internal links (wikilinks), which are hyperlinks between pages in Wikipedia. They're described in the next section. [http:url] or [http:url some text] Single square brackets around a URL create external links. This formatting is discussed in Chapter 2: Documenting your sources (see the section about external links).

H:WIKILINK. A wikilink (or internal link) is a link from one page to another page within the English Wikipedia, or, more generally, within the same Wikipedia (e.g. within the French Wikipedia), in other words: within the same domain, or, even more generally, within the same Wikimedia project (e.g. within Wiktionary).
