It is better to take the serial from the bottom of the butt frame since that is the official serial. However, some S&W revolvers have the serial in the yoke cut, like yours. Your gun was made in 1967.
Great looking Model 41, 3228 would be a first year gun. Don’t need the serial number to see it’s the first type. Hate to say it but, you will find that the box is not original to that gun. Check for a serial number under the bottom section, written in white pen. That box is for a 7XXXX or higher.
Hi gulfcoastgorilla, The S&W M&P 32 WCF / 32-20 series had their own number series 1-144xxx (1899-1940) thus a 6 digit Serial number 1111xx would be late 1920s. Hi gflester1, Your 32 WCF /32-20 Military & Police revolver is probably from the 19teens to early 1920s.

For a modest fee, he will look up your serial number and provide you the shipping date, how it left the factory and to where it was shipped. Once in a while, he can even tell you to whom it was shipped. S&W did not ship in numerical sequence. They grabbed whatever revolver or revolvers satisfied the order and shipped them.
It may have happened, but if so, it was a rare occurence. With S&W revolvers, posting the whole number allows someone with a data base to look and see if they have that serial recorded. And if they do, they can provide a shipping date. With an approximate number, nothing can be told. S&W did not ship in sequence.
Your Model 37 likely shipped in the late 1960's, probably 1968 or '69. However, guns with serials later than yours shipped in 1966 and S&W did not ship in serial number order. Serial numbers and model numbers on Model 66-2. I've got a Model 66-2, 2 1/2" and I'm curious about the numbers stamped on the gun. There's a 7 digit one on the butt, "241K###", there's a letter "F" stamped on the rear of the cylinder, and then on the crane there is "Mod.66-2" "CA19", and "641###" and on the barrel under the extractor plunger ...
Location: Richardson, TX. Posts: 7,523. The number you listed for the 10-5 is the assembly number, which is arbitrary and basically meaningless. The serial number of a Model 10 is found on the bottom of the grip frame. It will be a 6-digit number preceded by a "C" or a "D". The Model 19 is 1976 production.
