Mountain was an American rock band formed on Long Island, New York, in 1969. [1] [2] Originally consisting of vocalist-guitarist Leslie West, bassist-vocalist Felix Pappalardi, keyboardist Steve Knight, and drummer N. D. Smart (soon replaced by Corky Laing), the group disbanded in 1972, but reunited on several occasions prior to West's death in 2020. [3]

Leslie Abel West (born Weinstein; October 22, 1945 – December 23, 2020) [2] was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was the co-founder, guitarist and co-lead vocalist of the rock band Mountain.

It is known for regularly programming world-famed artists. Music Mountain also offers a variety of teaching programs each season. Music Mountain's educational and artistic activities were overseen from 1975 until 2017 by Nicholas Gordon, son of founder Jacques Gordon. In 2016, Oskar Espina-Ruiz, clarinetist, was named artistic director.
In the spring of 2010 the band released their second studio album, Good Catch, featuring original songs written by the band. In the summer of 2010 the band scheduled numerous festival appearances including StrangeCreek, Mountain Jam, the inaugural Nateva Music Festival , [ 2 ] Gathering of the Vibes, Bella Terra Festival and WormTown.
