Anawalt is a town in McDowell County, West Virginia, United States. At one time it was known as Jeanette. [2] It is named in honor of James White Anawalt, who was then manager of Union Supply Company, a subsidiary of the United States Steel Company. [5] The population was 186 at the 2020 census. [3] Coal mining was the town's chief industry.

Anawalt Lake Wildlife Management Area [2] [1] is a 1,792-acre (725 ha) protected area located in McDowell County, West Virginia. It is managed by the Wildlife Resources Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. The terrain at Anawalt lake is steep, and covered with a second-growth hardwood forest.
