Montgomery Inn's third restaurant, Montgomery Inn East, opened on the east side of Cincinnati. In February 1997, fire completely destroyed the restaurant. The fire started in a malfunctioning sign atop the roof which repairmen had been working on earlier that day. Everyone was evacuated from the restaurant, and no one was injured.

Built during the early 1830s as a Georgian-style inn, the building was named for its innkeeper, Thomas Montgomery (1790-1877). He was an Irish immigrant to Upper Canada who amassed 400 acres of land to the northwest of the original city of Toronto, in what is now Etobicoke.
Thomas Montgomery (1790–1877) was an Irish Canadian businessman and estate owner. [1] He served as an officer in the Upper Canada militia. He is best remembered as the founder of Montgomery's Inn in present day Etobicoke. Montgomery Road, named after him, cuts along the inn connecting Dundas to Bloor street.

Montgomery served on the Niagara frontier during the War of 1812 and fought in the Battle of Queenston Heights. He operated a number of taverns in the York area, including The Bird in the Hand at Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, in 1828.
