Colorimetric capnography is a qualitative measurement method that detects the presence of carbon dioxide (CO2, a relatively acidic gas) in a given gaseous environment. From a medical perspective, the method is usually applied by exposing litmus paper/film to an environment containing a patient's airway gases (i.e. placing it into their breathing circuit/airway circuit), where it will then ...
Capnography is the monitoring of the concentration or partial pressure of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) in the respiratory gases. Its main development has been as a monitoring tool for use during anesthesia and intensive care .
In colorimetric capnography, the indicator is incorporated in an aqueous matrix that provides a pH just above the indicator's colour change. [4] When exposed to carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), it undergoes a colour change from purple to yellow, because when CO 2 dissolves in the matrix, it forms carbonic acid .
Colorimetry is "the science and technology used to quantify and describe physically the human color perception". [1] It is similar to spectrophotometry, but is distinguished by its interest in reducing spectra to the physical correlates of color perception, most often the CIE 1931 XYZ color space tristimulus values and related quantities.
These experiments sought to quantify the typical human chromatic response (color perception) and define it as the standard (colorimetric) observer. The standard observer is defined by the 3 color matching functions in one of the CIE 1931 color spaces. Due to the design of the experiments, the standard observer has the following constraints:
John Guild (1889–1979) was a British physicist specialized in optics, later transferred his focus on other studies.Guild worked at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) at Teddington in England.
Colorimetric analysis is a method of determining the concentration of a chemical element or chemical compound in a solution with the aid of a color reagent. It is applicable to both organic compounds and inorganic compounds and may be used with or without an enzymatic stage.
