The Konkan geoglyphs, sometimes called Konkan Petroglyphs, are a form of prehistoric rock art found along the Konkan coast of India, particularly in Maharashtra and Goa. [1] They consist of carvings on laterite plateaus ( saḍā ) and are believed to date back 12,000 years [ 1 ] [ 2 ]
Petroglyph National Monument stretches 17 miles (27 km) along Albuquerque, New Mexico's West Mesa, a volcanic basalt escarpment that dominates the city's western horizon. Authorized June 27, 1990, the 7,236 acres (2,928 ha) monument is cooperatively managed by the National Park Service and the City of Albuquerque .
The site consists of a boulder carved with five petroglyphs. The petroglyphs, which archaeologists believe were created by Native Americans between 1673 and 1835, depict three anthropomorphs, an L-shaped figure, and a possible avimorph. [2] The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 25, 2014. [1]
The petroglyphs are thought by some researchers to be purely pan-Amazonian in origin, and of mistico-religious or shamanic significance to those Amerindians of past centuries who must have been their creators. Others believe that there is an Inca component that is now coming to light, and that the petroglyphs constitute parts of a map.
Coso Rock Art District is a rock art site containing over 100,000 Petroglyphs by Paleo-Indians and/or Native Americans. [1] The district is located near the towns of China Lake and Ridgecrest, California.
