South Cape Beach State Park is a Massachusetts state park located in the town of Mashpee.It is part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.The park is situated between Waquoit Bay and Vineyard Sound and features barrier beach and dunes, salt marsh, scrub oak and pitch pine woodland and kettle ponds and is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Popponesset Island is located in the southeastern part of the town of Mashpee. [4] It lies in Popponesset Bay, an arm of Nantucket Sound, and is separated from the mainland of Cape Cod by the narrow Popponesset Creek. The CDP of New Seabury is to the west, across Popponesset Creek, and the Popponesset CDP is to the southwest.
In 2011, [9] the Mashpee Conservation Commission permitted the construction of an alternative coastal erosion control sea wall along Shore Drive West in New Seabury which consists of wooden pilings with one-inch gaps in between that allow waves to break through the wall and for sand replenishment along the beach. [10]
