Naha (那覇市, Naha-shi, Japanese:, Okinawan: Nāfa [1] [2] or Nafa [3]) is the capital city of Okinawa Prefecture, the southernmost prefecture of Japan. As of 1 June 2019, the city has an estimated population of 317,405 and a population density of 7,939 people per km 2 (20,562 persons per sq. mi.). The total area is 39.98 km 2 (15.44 sq mi).
Naha Airport Station (那覇空港駅, Naha-kūkō-eki) [1] is a railway station on the Okinawa Urban Monorail (Yui Rail) in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. It is the westernmost station in Japan, and the southernmost airport station in the country. The station has two platforms, though platform 2 is for the most part only used during rush hour.
The gardens of Shikina-en (識名園) are located on a small hill to the south of Shuri Castle in Naha, Okinawa. [1] The residence and its gardens are also known as Shichina-nu-Udun (シチナヌウドゥン) or Southern Gardens (南苑), as opposed to the Eastern Gardens (東苑) or Uchayaudun (御茶屋御殿), laid out on a small hill east of Shuri Castle in 1677. Okinawa City downtown. Okinawa City (沖縄市, Okinawa-shi, Japanese:) is the second-largest city in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, following Naha, the capital city. [1] It is located in the central part of the island of Okinawa, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Naha.
At the end of the Taishō period, the prefecture completed a railway system having three lines radiating from Naha: one to Kadena, one to Yonabaru, and one to Itoman. Okinawa Electric also extended its routes. A horse-drawn trolley linking Naha and Itoman also began operations. This was the peak of the rail system in Okinawa.
Naha Airport is the hub for Japan Transocean Air, which connects Okinawa Prefecture with other prefectures of Japan, and Ryukyu Air Commuter, which connects Okinawa main island with surrounding islands. Naha Airport is a 24-hour airport, and served 21.5 million passengers in 2018, an increase of roughly three million passengers in two years.
