The current hospital is on the site of the former Bankstown Hospital, which was an old structure built I think in the 1950s. When redeveloped in the mid 1990's, the newer current hospital was built behind the old structure, then the old hospital was demolished. The car park out the front is where the old building once stood.

It was established in 1883 and as of 2024, it is still active. Its main focus is on acute care rather than chronic illness. [2]
