Clovis is a city in and the county seat of Curry County, New Mexico. [7] The population was 38,567 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] Clovis is located in the New Mexico portion of the Llano Estacado , in the eastern part of the state.
Hotel Clovis was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. [ 3 ] Although the hotel closed in 1983, Developer Stephen Crozier launched an extensive renovation, announcing that he would build 31 loft-style apartments in the Art Deco building, as well as creating some 8,000 square feet of commercial space.
In 1935 the mansion became the Hazelwood Sanitarium. In 1942 it became the Clovis Avenue Sanitarium, and in the 1950s it was licensed by the Department of Mental Hygiene. “In 1954 a hospital wing was added to the house where they treated mental disorders,” Campbell notes. [2] In 1992 the Clovis Avenue Sanitarium was shut down. [2]

The Clovis-Portales Combined Statistical Area is made up of two counties in east central New Mexico. The statistical area consists of the Clovis Micropolitan Statistical Area and the Portales Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, the CSA had a population of 63,062 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 63,224). [1]
