The work was completed in April 2011, and saw the return of the cathedra to St Andrew's Cathedral from the temporary pro-cathedral of the Archdiocese of Glasgow at Saint Mary's, Calton. The cathedral re-opened officially on 11 April 2011.
St Andrew's in the Square is the former church in the centre of St Andrew's Square; it was inspired by St Martin-in-the-Fields in London. Formerly known as St Andrew's Church of Scotland Parish church, it was constructed between 1739 and 1756, and is the fourth oldest church in Glasgow, after the Cathedral, the Tron Church in Trongate and the nearby St Andrew's-by-the-Green.

In 1974, Renfield parish and St Stephen's parish, which both used the church, united into one parish to form Renfield St Stephen's. [3] In 2019, Renfield St Stephen's and Anderston Kelvingrove united to form a new parish called St Andrew's West. The current congregation is made up of a union of 15 original congregations.
