Bowls Australia is responsible for the leadership, development and management of lawn bowls in Australia. It is a not-for-profit organisation governed by a voluntary board that provides the strategic direction for the sport and the strategies that are implemented by the staff at the national office.
In 1886, the North and South Islands came together to form the original New Zealand Bowling Association (NZBA). Further Associations were created, one called the Northern Bowling Association (1890) and another in Auckland (1895), which effectively made the NZBA redundant.
