Emil R. Buchser High School was a comprehensive, coeducational public high school in Santa Clara, California, United States that served students in grades nine through twelve. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] It opened in 1957 as the Santa Clara Union High School District 's second high school, [ 3 ] [ 5 ] and it closed in 1981 due to declining enrollment. [ 4 ]
Santa Clara High School was established in 1872 on the same property as the Santa Clara Grammar School, eventually moving to its own location in 1906. [18] [13] [19] [20] By 1966, the district included Santa Clara High School, Emil R. Buchser High School, Adrian C. Wilcox High School, and Marian A. Peterson High School. [2] [21]
In 1981, rival Buchser High School closed, and Santa Clara High School moved to its campus. [5] [6] [a] Because of the influx of former Buchser students into the Santa Clara student body, the school changed its mascot, logo, and yearbook name. [5] [7] Santa Clara High shares a longstanding rivalry with crosstown Wilcox High School.
[3] [13] [22] Much of the student body, as well as most of the administrative staff, was pulled from Emil R. Buchser High School. [ 30 ] [ 31 ] [ c ] The first graduating class was the Class of 1964, and the first class to attend Wilcox for all four years was the Class of 1965.

Emil Kosa Jr. (November 28, 1903 – November 4, 1968) was an American artist of Czech origin. He was the art director of 20th Century Pictures ' special effects department for more than three decades, winning an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects along the way.
