I had the same type issue last year. I own my house and had recently upgraded the service, relocated the main panel to the inside and rewired my house minus the existing receptacles. Our lights would dim/flicker, mainly in the evenings. It was random. I called the POCO and on first visit. I told them the issue is probably at the connections on ...
The flickering happens every little while, and it is a light flicker that last 2 or 3 seconds. The majority of the lights are all LEDs (Mostly recessed with some LED bulbs in chandeliers etc), with only the bedrooms on dimmers. I had the electrician who wired the house come out and check every connection as well as the power company twice.
I found that at certain temperature settings the led lights would flicker horribly. Adjusting the temperature a degree or two would take care of it. I'm assuming that at certain temp settings matches with certain flow rates would make the element relays kick in and out, causing the flicker.
I also noticed the flickering in other rooms at that time. The flickering is barely noticeable. The washing machine is old and I think I may hear a bit of noise that may or may not have been present before I first started noticing the flickering. I suppose what I may be seeing is a noise artifact being picked up by the unfiltered lighting circuits.
SOLVED: so the customer called tonight. Lights flickering again. Looked at the PQM. No love, not picking up the issue on the main. So, we moved to the sub panel and hook it up, lights are now flickering while I'm there. PQM doesn't see it.
I rencently had the same problem at a costomer's house. Lights were flickering intermittently. I thought it might be a loose neutral as well. House had a 100A 120/240V service, installed only 3-4 years ago. I first tied reading my incoming voltage's at the main breaker with all the branch circuits ON.
Best way to find the problem, I M O. Go to panel.... flip breakers off ...until flickering stops. Now you know which circuit has the problem. Then the process of elimination, and you will find the cause. I know this sounds like a simple solution, but I find simple solutions are usually the best.
I have a customer with a repair shop whose lights flicker when the air compressor runs. here are the facts: 100 amp panel fed with # 2 URD Approx 150' from main service Voltage at panel is 243 with normal shop usage; when air compressor runs it is 237 Air compressor pulls 30 amps He has T5 high bays and LED strips, both wired 240 volt.
Neighbor is reporting flickering lights throughout his house too. I know that a spike can easily bee the reason for the 2 TVs, but it's crazy to happy within 2 days. I'm obviously seeing a problem with the transformer, most likely a neutral issue. My question is whether or not you've heard of a digital clock run fast.
The lights only flicker when 1 element is on. If we turn on more than 1 faucet or a bathtub and the second element kicks on, this problem goes away. We checked for bad neutrals and grounds at the service. There is a 200amp service on the house and minor voltage drop (less than 4 amps)when this unit is running (It draws 110 amps). Any suggestions?
