[2] In 2005 by Governor's Executive Order, the State Military Board was abolished with duties transfer to the department with the Governor's approval authority over the Military Board was transferred to the State Administrative Board. The Michigan State Troops were reconstituted as the Michigan Emergency Volunteers (MEV) by Public Act 246 of 1988. [2] The MEV's original intention was for it to be a trained emergency volunteer force in case the National Guard was sent out of the state in a national emergency. The MEV was disbanded in October 1998.
