Found it in Idaho liquor stores for $36 with 6% tax. Found it in specialty bourbon stores in Washington state for $34 with 28% tax. Stay away from the big chains, they even run out of Buffalo Trace let alone have Eagle Rare. Saw a bunch at an Albertsons grocery store recently.
Today for my 10th review, I'm sitting down with an iconic 10 year bourbon, and the first bottle I ever truly "hunted" for, Eagle Rare! This bottle really doesn't need any introduction, everyone in the bourbon community knows about Eagle Rare and has their opinions on it, good or bad. Let's dive into it.
Great review. I enjoy Eagle Rare quite a bit. I was more fond of it when I first started drinking bourbon and hadn’t tried many. Now I think my palate is more complex. That being said it is still a good pour if you can find it. I got my first bottle in a suburb of Louisville while on vacation. It was a store pick for $56.00 so not too bad.
Yup. Eagle Rare is real spotty, can be easy to find at times and then disappear. Even regular Buffalo Trace bourbon has been extra hard to find this year. One of my buddies eventually came accross a bottle and picked it up for me. I personally have not seen it in the wild since last year.
“Heresy! 10s are reserved for the unattainable, unaffordable, undrinkable because it must not be opened. Taste is everything! Eagle Rare is mediocre tater juice with weak proof for beginners!” Bullshit. Eagle Rare kicks ass. It bears a 10 year age statement from the most in demand distillery currently producing bourbon.

Eagle Rare is a 10 year old bourbon produced by Buffalo Trace. Allegedly mashbill 1 like EH Taylor. I have seen it exactly 1 time this year and this is that bottle. I’ll be honest, I’m not writing this review because I think it adds anything useful to the community, it’s just a thinly veiled excuse to show you Zelda.
Everything about this Eagle Rare screams a certain sense of pride. From its iconic logo to the snapshot image on the bottle of the eagle swooping down, seconds before the kill. This is not a whiskey that tries to be different. This whiskey is proud to be a Bourbon and ready to show the world what the category can bring. Tasting Notes: Eagle ...
Agree 100% with your review. My though when I had it for the first time: “Hey, that’s bourbon-y bourbon.” And when I killed the bottle? “Yep, still just bourbon-flavored bourbon.” Henry McKenna 10 Year takes Eagle Rare’s lunch money every day of the week and doesn’t feel bad about it.
