Wilderness near the Alpine Loop. (Wildhorse Peak on the left)The Alpine Loop Back Country Byway is a rugged 63-mile (101 km) Back Country Byway and Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway located in the high San Juan Mountains of Hindale, Ouray, and San Juan counties, Colorado, USA.
The pass is traversed by Forest Road 888, which is a four-wheel-drive path and is particularly narrow and exposed on the north side. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The pass was originally traversed by a pack trail connecting the mines and mining camps to the north with those to the south in the 1870s.

Near Mestaa'Ä—hehe Pass, the highway heads west along the upper end of Echo Mountain Ski Area. The highway then reaches an elevation of 10,000 feet at Echo Lake Park , [ 3 ] where it meets SH 5 . At this point, both SH 103 and SH 5 forms the Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway, [ 4 ] which is the highest paved road in North America.
Pass Creek Pass, elevation 9,380 feet (2,860 m), is a mountain pass along the border between Huerfano and Costilla counties in the southern part of the US state of Colorado. The pass marks the division between the Rio Grande and Arkansas River watersheds.
It is located along the border of Gunnison and Chaffee counties in Colorado, and is in the Sawatch Range. The road over Cottonwood Pass is the highest paved crossing of the Continental Divide in the U.S., and the second highest pass with an improved road in the state (the highest is Trail Ridge Road, US HWY 34 at 12,183 ft). North Pass (elevation: 10,135 ft (3,089 m)) [1] is a mountain pass over the Continental Divide in Saguache County, Colorado. North Pass, is also known as North Cochetopa Pass. [3] The pass is traversed by Colorado State Highway 114 between Saguache to the southeast and Gunnison to the northwest. [2] The route is an all-weather paved road.
