Waterford Township (commonly known simply as Waterford) is a charter township in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A northern suburb of Detroit , Waterford is located roughly 30 miles (48.3 km) northwest of downtown Detroit .
Waterford Village is an historic community in Waterford Township, Michigan. First settled in 1819, the village is located in the northernmost part of the township along Dixie Highway , on the southeast shore of Van Norman Lake .
For the first several years after Waterford Township High School was established in 1947, kindergarten through sixth grade attended Four Towns, Waterford Village, Williams Lake or Waterford Center, while the high school was based at Drayton Plains School until a permanent home, on the corner of M-59 and Crescent Lake Road, was completed in 1950.
Waterford Hill is located in Independence Township, in Oakland County, Michigan, 0.4 miles north of Waterford Village.The hill is classified as a summit. [2] It extends from east of Dixie Highway including Ottawa Park Cemetery to the east, to Maple Lane in Moon Valley to the north, to Parview Drive and Greens Lake to the west, to Van Norman Lake to the south.
Loon Lake is a freshwater lake located in Waterford Township, Michigan.It borders Dixie Highway on the west and is south of Walton Blvd. on the north. [2] The sand-bottom lake is 243 acres (98 ha), making it the 18th largest lake in Oakland County, Michigan and one of the largest in Waterford Township.
Williams Lake is a 155-acre (63 ha) all-sports lake in Waterford Township in Oakland County, Michigan in the Clinton River watershed. [2] The lake lies north of the Oakland County International Airport, to the west of Airport Road, and to the south and east of Williams Lake Road. Williams Lake connects upstream to Maceday Lake.
