When she joins Picard's crew, she handles communications and is able to get clearances so Picard and friends can land on the planet. At Freecloud, she meets her son, who is married with an expectant child, but he rejects her attempt at reconciliation. She begins a relationship with Seven at the end of season 1 and rejoins Starfleet before season 2.
Riker's emotions and love for Soren grow and he decides that he cannot leave Soren to this fate.
