The Veracruz metropolitan area (Zona metropolitana de Veracruz, ZMV) is a metropolitan area in Veracruz (state), Mexico formed by the city of Veracruz and its Veracruz municipality and five other municipalities.
The airport is situated at an elevation of 955 metres (3,133 ft) above mean sea level, located 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) southeast of Xalapa. It features a single asphalt runway , designated as 08/26, measuring 1,700 by 30 metres (5,577 by 98 ft).

Veracruz International Airport serves the city with daily service to Mexico City as well as international service to Houston only. The commercial passenger airlines to currently serve VER airport are Aeroméxico , United Airlines , American Airlines , Viva , Volaris and Aerus .
The old airport had one runway of 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) and was closed in 1987. The main bus station uses parts of the apron of the airport, while the Music School from the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán uses the former passenger terminal. The departures pavilion was rebuilt in 2005, with international flights facilities and a jet bridge.
