Vamanapuram is a village in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, India. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] It is the location of Shri 'Vamana', one of the ten incarnations of Maha Vishnu. The Lord Vamana temple is situated here, which is reflected in the name Vamanapuram, meaning, 'the city of the lord Vamana'.
It consists of a 11,500-square-foot (1,070 m 2), 73-foot (22 m) tall open-air temple and a 25,620-square-foot (2,380 m 2) surrounding deck. The Sri Meenakshi Temple Society was established in 1977. The land for the temple, a five acre site, was acquired between 1976 and 1978. A plan for the site was drawn up by Ranjit Banerjee, a professor of architecture at the University of Houston. The temple's first permanent structure was a Ganesha temple.
