Seascape (Slightly Cloudy) is an oil-on-canvas painting executed in 1969 by German artist Gerhard Richter. It depicts a cloudy sky in grey, white and blue tones over a deep, elongated horizon line and a grey, mirror-smooth surface of the sea. The painting is signed, dated and numbered 239-2 Richter 1969 on the reverse.

On the top half of his canvas Magritte paints a clear blue sky and white clouds that radiate bright daytime; while on the bottom half of his canvas below the sky, he paints a street, sidewalk, trees and houses all steeped in the darkness of night.
Just after 2 p.m. central time in Middle Tennessee, clouds covered most of the sky. So locals couldn't really see the last bit of sun disappear from the western sky and the sky turn toward black.
The rocks in the background and the grey clouds in the sky magnify the drama of the action illuminated by the sun. The attention to the military subjects and the cavalry comes from the pictorial interest of Vernet's father, Carle Vernet. The unlikely palm tree depicted behind the chapel, amid the wild vegetation, add a touch of exoticism to the ...
