Marlow's status as a regional commercial centre was present even before the first bridge in this area was built in the 13th century due to the settlement acting as an inland port. The first municipal building in Marlow was a medieval market hall described as "a very old miserably heavy building of timber". [2] In the late 18th century the local member of parliament, Thomas Williams, offered to pay for the demolition of the old market hall and the erection of a more substantial building on the same site. [3]

The family business was Thomas Wethered & Sons Ltd, a brewery which operated in Marlow from 1758 [6] until it closed in 1988. [7] Remnantz has been owned by the Bosley family since 2007. [ 8 ]
The Old Parsonage, built in 1701, was sold by the Church Commissioners to the author Peter Francis Carew Stucley, who in turn left it in his will to the National Trust in 1964. It still contains Stucley's collection of contemporary paintings acquired in the 1950s and 1960s. [ 2 ]
The Old Vicarage: Early 19th century: The former vicarage is in stuccoed brick with two storeys, an irregular plan, and a front of three bays, the outer bays with segmental gables. In the centre is a portico with four Ionic columns.
