Duffy Bass Field is a baseball venue in Normal, Illinois, USA.It is home to the Illinois State Redbirds baseball team of the Division I Missouri Valley Conference.It was built in 1988 [1] and has a capacity of 1,200 spectators, 1,000 of which is seated.
Opened in 1963 and named after Illinois State's former athletic director Dr. Howard Hancock. In 1969, Hancock Stadium became Illinois' first college stadium that featured artificial turf as its playing surface. [3] The artificial turf was replaced most recently in 2010 and a new scoreboard was installed. [4]
The playing surface had been natural grass for 34 seasons. FieldTurf was installed at Qwest Field (originally Seahawks Stadium) in 2002. [1] The original plans called for a natural grass field at the new stadium, but due to the favorable reactions from players while playing at Husky Stadium, the Seahawks had FieldTurf installed instead.
