The championship was won by Álvaro Bautista, who became World Champion in 2022 after finishing 2nd in Race 2 at the Mandalika round. The championship was founded in 1988. The Superbike World Championship consists of a series of rounds held on permanent racing facilities.
Gerloff's success in Supersport earned him a seat with the factory Yamaha team for the 2018 season in the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. [6] Gerloff finished the season with 5 podiums and fifth overall in the season standings.
