UK drill is a subgenre of drill music and road rap that originated in the South London district of Brixton from 2012 onwards. [1] [2] [3] While being sonically distinct from Chicago drill music, [4] it embraces its aesthetic and melds it with road rap, a British style of gangsta rap that became popular in the years prior to the existence of drill.
Shylo Batchelor Ashby Milwood (born 20 March 1996), known professionally as Russ Millions (formerly Russ, Russ Splash or RussMB), is an English rapper. In December 2018 he released his single "Gun Lean" on Virgin Records. [2] The track peaked at number 9 on the UK Singles Chart, [3] becoming the first UK drill track to reach the top 10. [4]
Rhys Angelo Emile Herbert [1] (born 29 June 2000), [2] [3] known professionally as Digga D, is an English rapper. He rose to fame in 2017 along with his UK drill collective CGM. [4] His mixtapes Double Tap Diaries and Made In The Pyrex reached No. 10 and 3 on the UK Albums Chart, respectively.
Kemani Tutti Kane Duggan (born 9 May 2001), known professionally as Bandokay (formerly stylized as BandoKay), is a British rapper. He is a member of the UK drill group OFB. Beginning his career in 2018 alongside fellow OFB rappers SJ and Double Lz, Bandokay gained prominence in 2019 after release of Frontstreet.
Double Lz noted Giggs, American rapper Quando Rondo, and the Chicago drill scene in general as influences. [7] In January 2019, Headie One released "18Hunna", featuring Dave, which entered the UK chart at number 6 - the highest a drill artist, at the time, had ever charted, and has gained over 15 million views on YouTube, as of February 2022.
Members of 7th are also involved in the UK drill scene, with rappers including CB [17] (short for Cracky Blackz), [18] Y.CB, [19] and YB Gaza. [20] There are also members of BWC, a set of 7th, that are involved in the UK drill scene as well, including Yanko [19] and Joints. [21]
