The Famoso Bakersfield Raceway hosted the first ever March Meet in 1959 and it helped establish the National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) legitimacy. Famoso (Spanish for "Famous") is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California. [1] It is located on Poso Creek 5.5 miles (8.9 km) south-southeast of McFarland, [2] at an elevation of 427 feet (130 m). [1] Famoso is located at the junction of State Route 99 and the eastern terminus of State Route 46.
The NHRA announced on March 10, 2024 that the planned Odessa round will not take place in 2024 because the drag strip, which during development was called the new Kansas City International Raceway and later Central Power Raceway, is still under construction. [7] That circuit opened April 11, 2024 for competition.
