Wetheriggs Animal Rescue (previously called Wetheriggs Zoo and Animal Sanctuary) is a registered UK charity. [1] Wetheriggs is an international animal rescue centre now located on the A66 just outside Barnard Castle in County Durham, England. The rescue centre takes in a wide range of animals apart from domestic cats and dogs.
Before the Seal Sanctuary opened, the site served as a look-out point in the Second World War, as a firing range and a campsite. [8]The attraction opened in Mablethorpe after an animal attraction called the Animal and Bird Garden, founded in 1965 in Suffolk, was flooded and the owners (Jerry and Rene King) decided to relocate.
