The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, formerly the Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, is a 47-story [1] luxury hotel and condominium building in the CityCenter complex on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is managed by Hilton Worldwide as part of the Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts brand. It is owned by Tiffany Lam and Andrew and Peggy Cherng.
The Showboat was built by William J. Moore of the Last Frontier and J. Kell Houssels of the Las Vegas Club [1] for $2 million. [2] The first resort within Las Vegas city limits, it had 100 rooms on two floors. [3] While Moore and Houssels ran the hotel, the casino was leased by a group of managers from the Desert Inn, including Moe Dalitz. [2]
It was scheduled to be demolished in the months ahead to make way for Wynn's new resort, [75] which opened as The Mirage in 1989. The Mirage's northern edge on Las Vegas Boulevard occupies the former Castaways property. [76] The Castaways name would later be used for the Showboat Hotel and Casino on Boulder Highway, starting in 2001. [77]
