Duncan A. McIntyre was early aviator and native of New Zealand, who on August 22, 1919 stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma to visit an old army buddy. Originally intending to stay a short while on his way to Spokane , Washington, McIntyre decided that Tulsa was fertile ground for establishing an aviation business.
The house was built in 1970 by Joe Duncan and was known as Duncan Acres, named after his family. [ clarification needed ] The property was originally 200 acres (0.81 km 2 ) in size. The "mansion" at Southfork Ranch is a 5,900 sq ft (550 m 2 ) house with a 957 sq ft (88.9 m 2 ) enclosed garage that was turned into a den/card room.
The series left the location at the end of the first season in 1978 at the request of property owner, Cloyce K. Box, who was unhappy with the negative portrayal of the Texas oil industry by the show. The production moved to the ranch "Duncan Acres", near Plano, Texas, where the series was filmed for the rest of its run. [2]

The molds and equipment were sold to the US Glass Company, where their Duncan Division in Tiffin, Ohio continued to produce Duncan-ware pieces. [1] [3] A number of Duncan employees also joined US Glass Company in Tiffin. [3] The Duncan factory was sold to Andy Bros., but before they could move in, a fire destroyed the building on June 29, 1956. [1]
