Bonners Ferry (Kutenai language: ʔaq̓anqmi [4]) is the largest city in and the county seat of Boundary County, Idaho, United States. [5] The population was 2,543 at the 2010 census . The Porthill-Rykerts Border Crossing connects Bonners Ferry with Creston, British Columbia , Canada, on the Kootenay River .
US-2 was created in 1925 as part of the original system of U.S. Highways. Its original western terminus was in Bonners Ferry. In 1946, the highway was extended west to Everett, Washington, with the Idaho section taking its current route. [4]
The Idaho panhandle—locally known as North Idaho, Northern Idaho, or simply the Panhandle—is a salient region of the U.S. state of Idaho encompassing the state's 10 northernmost counties: Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, and Shoshone (though the southern part of the region is sometimes referred to as North Central Idaho).
State Highway 1 (SH-1) is a state highway in Boundary County, in the U.S. state of Idaho. It extends 11.185 miles (18.00 km) from U.S. Route 95 (US-95) east of Copeland, north to British Columbia Highway 21 (BC 21) in Porthill. The route serves as a connector between Bonners Ferry, via US-95 south, Porthill, and Creston, BC.
US-95 continues into Idaho from southeastern Oregon as an undivided two-lane highway for the majority of its length. As it is the state's primary north–south highway, Idaho is in the process of widening US-95 to an Interstate-style divided four-lane highway, from the Oregon state line in the southwest to Eastport at the northern border with Canada at Kingsgate, British Columbia.
At only 33 miles (53 km) in length, Idaho's Highway 200 is the shortest in the chain while Montana's Highway 200 is the longest. There is another highway called SR 20 in Washington that would complete the chain of Hwy 200s, but ID-200 is no longer directly connected to WA-20.
