Triay was a Minorcan settler who came to St. Augustine from Andrew Turnbull's New Smyrna colony. The Triay family owned the home through 1834, and the original house stood on the site as a residence and served in various commercial capacities until 1904 when a two-story house was built.

The Salcedo House was a dwelling constructed in St. Augustine's First Spanish Period (1565–1763).By the end of this period the house belonged to Alfonsa de Avero. Avero, her sisters living nearby, and their families left St. Augustine with other Spaniards when Florida was transferred to the British with the 1763 Treaty of Paris.
The Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board purchased the Arrivas House in July 1960 for $49,900, and set out to restore the structure to its Second Spanish Period appearance. [3] It was the first restoration project they undertook in preparation for St. Augustine's 400th Anniversary celebration in 1965.
Towers was a member of the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board (HSAPB) and donated the house to the Board. The Joaneda House Development Project began in 1976 and was completed in 1977. Archaeological excavations on the lot were completed before restoration work began, in 1975. [5] The cost of the project was $82,476.
