Like the rest of the series, it follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates. The first 18 episodes, dealing with Nefertari Vivi and the Straw Hats as they arrive in Alabasta to stop a civil war from happening, make up the Arabasta Jōriku (アラバスタ上陸, lit. "Arrival at Alabasta") arc.
With Chaka and Koza presenting the defeated Crocodile as the rebellion's orchestrator, the fighting stops. It rains for three days. After that, Luffy wakes up and a banquet is given for the pirates. News arrives that a marine fleet is on their way to Alabasta. The Straw Hats decide to leave as fast as possible, leaving Vivi with a choice.

Baby 5 and Buffalo arrive via the latter’s Spin-Spin Fruit powers allowing him to turn any part of his body into a propeller, and spot Caesar and attempt to rescue him after contacting Doflamingo.

Toriko and the Straw Hats follow the assailant's tracks and set out to rescue their comrades, Nami and Komatsu. Along the way, they face a fierce group of lions, but are aided by Toriko's allies: Sunny, Coco & Rin. They find their friends being held captive on a mountain by a group of mammals called Cocoalas.
