Grantown-on-Spey (Scottish Gaelic: Baile nan Granndach) is a town in the Highland Council Area, historically within the county of Moray.It is located on a low plateau at Freuchie beside the river Spey at the northern edge of the Cairngorm mountains, about 20 miles (32 km) south-east of Inverness (35 miles or 56 km by road).
The first of these was a public hospital in Grantown-on-Spey, named the Ian Charles Hospital in his memory: [14] Thus, fifteen months after his death, in May 1885 there was opened at Grantown-on-Spey the Ian Charles Hospital. The erection and endowment of such a hospital had been arranged by the Countess Dowager and her son.

Grantown is 7 + 1 ⁄ 2 miles (12 kilometres) away. [4] Loch Garten lies to the southeast of the village. To the east of the village is the small settlement of Drumuillie. Situated at an elevation of 220 metres (720 ft) above sea level, [1] it lies 500 metres (1,600 feet) from the River Spey in the Cairngorms National Park. [5]
It is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) from Grantown-on-Spey and 1 mile (1.6 km) from Dulnain Bridge. The A938 road runs off to the side, just north of the A95 road . [ 20 ] Nearby are the ruined thirteenth-century Castle Roy [ 21 ] and Muckrach House, [ 3 ] which operates as a country house for hire.
While other Highlanders were emigrating in the face of the changes that were sweeping away the old Highland way of life, Sir James Grant was busy building an entire town, building schools, mills, factories, a hospital, an orphanage, etc. to provide for his Clan. Grantown-on-Spey is a monument to Sir James's loyalty to his clansmen.
Cromdale (Scottish Gaelic: Cromdhail, from crom 'crooked' and dal 'valley, dale') [1] is a village in Strathspey, in the Highland council area of Scotland, and one of the ancient parishes which formed the combined ecclesiastical (later civil) parish of Cromdale, Inverallan and Advie in Morayshire.
The facility, which was founded by the Countess of Seafield in memory of her son, Ian Charles Ogilvy-Grant, opened in 1885. [1] A maternity wing was completed in 1923, [2] and, after joining the National Health Service in 1948, it was further expanded in the 1950s. [1]
