Paul De Lucia [1] (born Felice De Lucia, Italian: [feˈliːtʃe de luˈtʃiːa]; November 14, 1897 – October 11, 1972), known as Paul Ricca (/ ˈ r iː k ə /, Italian:), was an Italian-American mobster who served as the nominal or de facto leader of the Chicago Outfit for 40 years.
Capone was convicted of income tax evasion in 1931 and the Outfit was next run by Paul Ricca. He shared power with Tony Accardo from 1943 until his death in 1972; Accardo became the sole power in the Outfit upon Ricca's death and was one of the longest-sitting bosses of all time upon his death in 1992.
Paul "The Waiter" Ricca, who had been the de facto boss since Capone's imprisonment, took the role officially and named Accardo as underboss. Ricca and Accardo ran the Outfit for 30 years until Ricca died in 1972. [6] When Ricca subsequently received a 10-year prison sentence for his part in the Hollywood scandal, Accardo became acting boss.
