Todo takes the Black Flash meant for them, after which Yuji traps Sukuna in his Domain Expansion. Yuji's actions finally get through to Megumi and he begins resisting Sukuna from the inside. Following a Resonance on Sukuna's final finger from the recently-awakened Nobara, Yuji is able to hit Sukuna with a final Black Flash.
Yuji's left hand is torn off by the spirit, so he unleashes Sukuna to fight. Sukuna swiftly kills the Special Grade, regenerates Yuji's hand, and reclaims one of his fingers that was powering the curse. He then waits for Yuji to reclaim control as planned but to his surprise and joy, Yuji does not appear.
Yuji ingests the finger and becomes Sukuna's host. Jujutsu master and teacher at the Tokyo school Satoru Gojo tells Yuji that he is intended for execution, but it is delayed so that the world can be rid of Sukuna when Yuji eat all of Sukuna's fingers. Yuji moves into the school and is mentored in Jujutsu personally by Satoru.

In a mission to contain a Special Grade Cursed Spirit, Yuji and his colleagues are greatly endangered, so the young sorcerer gives Sukuna control of his body, to defeat his assailant. Sukuna destroys the opponent, but seizes the moment of freedom to rip out Yuji's heart, and attempts to kill Fushiguro, becoming very interested in the latter.
