Originally meetings of Sligo County Council were held at Sligo Courthouse. [1] The county council moved to modern facilities at Riverside in June 1979. [2] The building was substantially re-modeled, to a design by Murray O'Laoire, to create a new council chamber and reception area: the new facilities were opened by Noel Dempsey, Minister for the Environment and Local Government, in June 2001.
On 3 April 2014 the Supreme Court found that Sligo County Council must pay 75% of the costs of the appellants, estimated at 5.25 million, and all of its own costs for the 58 day legal battle. [23] In 2018, the parties reached a settlement on some of the owners' costs, which by then were estimated at about €7 million.
