Saskatchewan, Canada. In much of Canada Whitetail deer and moose season overlap. Many moose hunters feel better equipped with 180 gr. bullets in their .308 Win rifles rather than lighter bullets. I've used 180 RN bullets in my .308's for years, and they work very well for bonus deer and the intended moose.

It has a heavy 20 inch barrel with a 1:10 twist rate. I used 150 grain Hornady American Whitetails last year, and they got the job done.
Member. I'm about to mount a new scope on my Savage Model 11 .308. With my old optics, I loaded Federal Trophy Copper 168 grain and they did fine but didn't blow me away either. Before I mount and zero my new scope, I want to decide which round to use. I'd love to hear from anyone with a similar rifle what copper round your rifle "likes" the best.
Mobile, Alabama. 180 grain 308 deer loads are not the best, I have killed several pick up truck loads of deer with 150 grain WW factory, rem corelocks, you name it, in the 150-165 grain range. Killed the two of the biggest one 12 and one 10 with cheap WW powerpoints 150 grain the 3rd with a 223 and a 62 grain bullet.
4,177. Location. North Platte, Nebraska. A .308 does not need a super-premium bullet due to its moderate velocity. However, a Nosler Partition will always perform real well, as will the Accubond. My boys have killed several elk with a 165 Hornady Interlock at only 2557 fps.
Tucson AZ. Well, just to get slightly OT, my go to bullet in the .308 for any type of deer is the 165 gr. Speer Hot-Core. It has been a solid one shot DRT bullet at ranges from 35 feet to 250 yards. Not only has it worked well for me, but it does not mangle up quite so much good eating meat.
Guest. So, I bought a new Browning BAR last Fall and used to to go deer hunting. Took three shots on some nice bucks and a varmit from afar. Didn’t hit either (call it buck fever) on any of the three occasions. In fact, I had a jam after my first shot and all we at temperatures around 10-32 degrees F. When season was over I learned two things.
If someone asked me which is best for 300+ yard shots at elk, a .308 or a .30-06, I'd say the 06. That is not to say that the .308 won't work, that's an entirely different question. And in my mind anyway, the 180 grain bullet at 2,700 gets closest to what an 06 delivers.
22. The Barnes VOR-TX 308 Winchester 150 Grain TTSX polymer tipped spitzer boat tail (lead-free) is a round that my .308 really likes. I called Barnes for their load data to replicate it, but their load information is proprietary. Because i've had such great performance with it out of my rifle, I'm looking forward to handloading it.
Southern California. The 125-gr are pretty accurate, like the Sierra and the Ballistic Tip. You can load them down to 2,700 - 2,800 fps and you have the equivalent of a .257 Roberts - .25-06 with light recoil, for a small hunter or for practice with the same aiming points as your 165 and 180 grain .30-06 loads.
