The Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) is the professional association for librarians in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. [1] It represents about 2,000 members affiliated with public , academic , special , and school libraries throughout the state, and was founded in 1901.
PLA was formed in 1944 as the Division of Public Libraries of the American Library Association. The formation of the Division of Public Libraries of the American Library Association was approved by the ALA Council in 1944 following petitions signed by nearly 1,200 members. The first PLA president was Amy Winslow of Cuyahoga County Library. [10]
Membership in ARSL is open to any person or organization, but most of its members are libraries or librarians. These members are library staff, library board members, professional consultants, volunteers and library-related organizations.
