Penhaligon's is a British perfume house. It was founded in the late 1860s by William Henry Penhaligon , a Cornish barber who moved to London and who became Court Barber and Perfumer to Queen Victoria .
L’Artisan Parfumeur was established in 1976 by Jean Laporte. [2] In 1982, he left the company, going on to form rival Maître Parfumeur et Gantier in 1988. [3] [4]L'Artisan is based in Paris—the original store opened on Rue de Grenelle in 1979 [4] —but now has outlets worldwide.
In 1872, Penhaligon launched his first fragrance, Hammam Bouquet, and in 1874 he took over the running of the baths' salon, and expanded it to offer perfumery and related items. [1] In 1880, he went into business with his foreman, and Penhaligon's & Jeavons was founded, with premises a few doors away from the baths, also in Jermyn Street. [1] [2]
