A 2.8 mile (4.5 km) portion of the Appalachian Trail runs through the park in addition to a number of other hiking and horseback riding trails. The state park is musically notable as the home for the Grayson Highlands Fall Festival as well as weekly jam sessions by local folk musicians , who draw upon the traditional styles of the Blue Ridge area.
The B-Zones (for blue wax) face east and descend down the center of the bowl from the 12,392 ft (3,777 m) summit of Highland Peak. The south-facing Y-Zones (yellow wax), are the steepest, with slopes as steep as 48 degrees, according to Aspen Highlands trail maps. These can be skied without hiking.
The Highland Fling Race is an annual 85 km (53 mi) race from Milngavie to Tyndrum. [28] The Devil o' the Highlands Footrace is 69 km (43 mi) from Tyndrum to Fort William, along the northern section of the way. [29] The West Highland Way Race is an annual 153 km (95 mi) race along the full south–north distance of the West Highland Way.
The "Highland Trail" the Indian traders called it, for it kept well on the watershed dividing the Allegheny tributaries on the north from those of the Monongahela on the south. Farther to the south the scene shows a change, for the Atlantic plain widens considerably.
The trail does go on for a total length of 4 miles (6.4 km) to the lookout tower at Cove Mountain, but this portion is mostly neglected by hikers, most of whom stop at the waterfall, one of the largest in the national park. Gatlinburg Trail: Only two trails in the national park allow pets (on leashes) and bicycles, and this is one of them.
Trail map The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is a 70.1-mile (112.8 km) hiking trail in southwestern Pennsylvania , which largely follows the Laurel Hill geologic formation. It begins at Ohiopyle State Park and travels generally to the northeast, and ends at Conemaugh Gorge near Johnstown .
The Highland Trail is the 1.2-mile (1.9 km) path between the northern ends of Glen Leigh and Ganoga Glen. It meets the Falls Trail just north of Onondaga Falls and has a short connector to F. L. Ricketts, the next waterfall south. [3] The Falls Trail by both of these northernmost waterfalls had to be rebuilt in the early 2000s. [40] [46]
