Ragnar Berg (September 1, 1873 – March 31, 1956) [1] was a Swedish-born biochemist and nutritionist who worked most of his adult life in Germany. He is best known for his theories on the importance of acid-base balance and inorganic minerals like calcium in the diet; later in life he endorsed vegetarianism and ways to prolong the human life span.

Berg was born in Brooklyn, New York City.He was the son of a Russian Jewish immigrant couple, [5] Sarah Brodsky, a homemaker, and Harry Berg, a clothing manufacturer. [6] Berg graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1943, [7] received his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Penn State University in 1948 and PhD in biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University in 1952.
