National Tire and Battery (NTB) is an American brand of auto service centers. It was formerly owned by Sears until it was spun-off in 2003. In 2020, Mavis Tire Supply Co. bought 112 NTB Tire & Service Centers, leaving the parent TBC Corporation with 615 locations under the Tire Kingdom and NTB brands.
Founded in 1943, the Merchant family from Manassas, VA owned and operated the first retail stores for Merchant's Tire and Auto. Over the next decades, the company expanded along the East Coast. In the year 2003, Tire Kingdom purchased National Tire & Battery (NTB) and Merchant's Tire & Automotive Service.
The Company changed its name to Tire & Battery Corporation in 1972. Eleven years later, Tire & Battery Corporation went public (NASDAQ: TBCC). In 2005, the company was purchased by Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA), one of Japan's major integrated trading and investment business enterprises.
