Bariis Iskukaris, also called Isku-dheh karis (Somali البيلاف الصومالي), or simply referred to as Bariis is a traditional rice dish from Somali cuisine. [1] [2] The name Isku-dheh karis literally means "cooked mixed together", therefore it is sometimes used to more broadly refer to other grain-derived crops that require similar cooking.
Shushumow is a fried Somali pastry with a crystallised shell which is usually made as a party snack. Basbousa is a traditional Somali sweet cake of Arab influence. [11] It is made from cooked semolina or farina soaked in simple syrup. Also in the north there is lokma, a sweet fried-dough pastry. Baklava is also eaten by some Somalis.

A unique characteristic of bariis and other Somali dishes is the addition of banana on the side to be mixed with the dish.
