[1] [2] [3] It depicts Alexandra of Denmark, then Princess of Wales as the wife of the future Edward VII. Alexandra had arrived in Britain from her native Denmark the previous year for her wedding.
Portrait of Prince Albert is an 1859 portrait painting by the German artist Franz Xaver Winterhalter depicting Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the husband of Queen Victoria and Prince Consort of the United Kingdom. [1] [2] It was the last of several portraits Winterhalter painted of Albert before the prince's death in 1860.
The painting was commissioned by Empress Eugénie de Montijo to be exhibited at the painting salon of the Exposition Universelle, which opened in May.The painting was supposed to represent the sovereign in the midst of her ladies-in-waiting, who took turns around her throughout the week.
