The Long Island Cup is a multi-team lacrosse tournament among the four Division I college lacrosse programs located on Long Island, New York.It consists of Hofstra University and Long Island University in Nassau County, Stony Brook University in Suffolk County and St. John's University in Queens County, which is part of the geographical definition of Long Island but not the cultural one.
The team began play in December 2019 with its home arena being the Nassau Coliseum. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The Riptide mark the return of the National Lacrosse League to the Long Island area after the departure of the New York Saints ( 1989 – 2003 ) and the New York Titans ( 2006 – 2009 ), both of whom also played at Nassau Coliseum.
The facility was used for three nights every October for the annual Newsday Marching Band Festival where selected Long Island high schools performed in an exhibition-style competition. Since 2014, the event has been held elsewhere. Various Long Island high school and New York state championship games for different sports are also held at the site.
