Lumet was born on February 2, 1967, in New York City. She is the second daughter born to director Sidney Lumet [1] and journalist/writer Gail Buckley (Gail Buckley Jones). On her paternal side, she is of Polish-Jewish ancestry. Her paternal grandfather was Baruch Lumet, who was a Yiddish theatre actor.
Horne married Louis Jordan Jones, a political operative, [28] [29] in January 1937 in Pittsburgh. On December 21, 1937, their daughter, Gail (1937–2024), was born. They had a son, Edwin Jones (1940–1970), who died of kidney disease. [4] Horne and Jones separated in 1940 and divorced in 1944.
