Minnesota State Highway 40 (MN 40) is a 72.723-mile-long (117.036 km) state highway in west-central Minnesota, which travels from South Dakota Highway 20 (SD 20) at the South Dakota state line near Marietta and continues east to its eastern terminus at its intersection with County State-Aid Highway 5 (CSAH 5) in Willmar.
Minnesota state highway markers use Type D FHWA font for all route numbers and type C for three-digit route markers only if type D font cannot be used. All routes except interstates use 24-by-24-inch (610 mm × 610 mm) or 36-by-36-inch (910 mm × 910 mm) markers.
The southern end of the Avenue of the Saints is at exit 28A on Interstate 64/U.S. Route 40 (I-64/US 40), which is also the southern end of its concurrency with US 61.
