[1] The album contains music composed for the 2016 film Altamira, directed by Hugh Hudson.
Knopfler had also expressed his interest writing film music, and after producer David Puttnam responded [29] [30] he wrote and produced the music score to the film Local Hero. The album was released in April 1983 and received a BAFTA award nomination for Best Score for a Film the following year.
In his audio commentary of the film on the Special Edition DVD, director Rob Reiner said that only Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits could create a soundtrack to capture the film's quirky yet romantic nature. Reiner was an admirer of Knopfler's work but did not know him before working on the film.
